Possible Half-Life 3?

Fans have been asking for this for years, 11 years to be exact: Half-Life 3. It just might be time to hold onto your seats gamers, because Valve has been throwing crumbs lately, and even though there’s no clear answer on this one, we do have a recap of everything that’s been going on. Obviously, you’re dying to hear all about it, so let’s dive right in.

Last year, and even for most of this year, Valve has been more about business than any potential insight or step toward Half-Life 3. Steam, Steam machines, etc. Then, during a GameSlice Podcast interview, Gabe Newell, Valve co-founder and managing director, explained how they would go about creating another installment:

“The only reason we’d go back and do like a super classic kind of product is if a whole bunch of people just internally at Valve said they wanted to do it and had a reasonable explanation for why [they did].”

By the sound of his answers, he was on the fence, and that was more than enough to keep everyone joking about its development. That is, until September 1st, when a dog screenshot was leaked online. Then, Counter-Strike’s Minh “Gooseman” Le jumped into the conversation, claiming Valve would be announcing something Half-Life 3 related later this year. However, it is important to note that 4Chan is not a reputable source, and should never be taken as fact or even (especially) a moral-standard.

Valve has decided to stay quiet on the subject as of late, not confirming or denying anything. That is until EGX 2015, in the UK last week. Chet Faliszek, Valve video game writer, spoke about virtual reality in gaming, and was asked if Half-Life 3 would be virtual reality. Instead of denying the game’s development, he simply said “no.” Clearly, Faliszek didn’t confirm or deny anything either, but that was enough to get people speculating again.

As of now, there is no concrete answer about the game’s development, but what is clear is that Valve hasn’t completely shut the book on it. It could be made, it might not – the only way to know for sure is to wait for an official announcement. There have been leaks and rumors for eleven years now, but no one has abandoned hope.
