A lawsuit brought against Apple alleges the company unfairly forced iPod users to only purchase music via the iTunes Store. The lawsuit claims Apple intentionally stifled competitors by requiring iPod users to delete the music they bought off third-party marketplaces. This practice allegedly went on between 2007 and 2009.
According to the suit, when users tried to sync their iPods to their iTunes libraries, an error message would appear and force the user to perform a factory reset. And this of course would result in the deletion of the competitors music.
An attorney said “You guys decided to give them the worst possible experience and blow up [a user’s music library],” during the proceedings.
Much of the evidence brought against Apple in this case are emails from the company’s founder, the late Steve Jobs.
Bonny Sweeney, the main plaintiffs’ lawyer stated: “We will present evidence that Apple took action to block its competitors and in the process harmed competition and harmed consumers,”
