How To Easily Start Your Own Podcast

Have you ever wondered how to start a podcast? Well in 2020, it’s easier than it’s ever been to get started with podcasting. Starting anything online nowadays can be a daunting task. While it’s now easier than ever to start an online venture, it’s also more difficult than ever to get noticed. That’s due to the simple fact that there are more creators on the internet than ever before, and the number only keeps growing. But that shouldn’t keep you from starting an online venture. If you have something great to share, share it!

Starting a podcast is a particularly good idea for someone wanting to start creating content. One of the most obvious reasons for that is that it’s not very intimidating. The listeners can’t see you, they just hear your voice, and you have much more capability when it comes to editing. You can edit audio files to death and people probably won’t notice; you can’t do that with video. Audio is not going anywhere soon. Since people are always consuming content nowadays, audio podcasts are only gaining in popularity. People can listen to them while doing other things which makes them particularly appealing nowadays. While people work out or go on a road trip, they’re turning to podcasts to keep themselves busy.

Thankfully, starting a podcast is not difficult. You’ll only need a couple of things to get started. Generally, you’ll need:

  • A Decent Microphone
  • A Computer To Edit On
  • A Quiet Place To Record
  • An Amazing Content Idea

While I say you need all of those things, you don’t actually NEED them. You could just record the podcast using your smartphone, although I wouldn’t recommend that. I’d recommend using a good microphone, and it doesn’t have to be super expensive. Yeti makes some great USB microphones that would do the job perfectly.

Once you’ve got your setup, you just need to record an episode. Before you hit the record button, make sure you’ve got at least a general idea of where the episode is going. How are you starting it and how is it going to end? Once you’ve got that figured out, start recording. One tip I have for you is to not stop recording. If you say something wrong, just correct it and you can edit the mistake out later. Restarting the recording will waste a lot of time, because mistakes happen a lot when you’re starting out.

After you’ve recorded a podcast episode, edit that sucker. Throw an intro on it and start editing out your mistakes and make it sound all smooth and professional-like. There are a lot of different editors you can use, but my favorite is Adobe Audition (not free). Garage Band will work just fine too. Windows users, I’m not sure what all your options are, but a quick Google search will help you out with that.

Okay, now that we’ve covered editing, the next step is publishing. This is where it could easily get confusing for a lot of people, but thankfully there’s a free platform that makes this step incredibly easy. All you have to do is sign up at Anchor.fm and set up your podcast there. They will automatically submit your podcast episodes to all the podcast places including iTunes, Spotify and Google Play plus a bunch of others.

That’s all there is to it! Making a podcast has never been more simple. All of us here at Oatboat wish you the best in your podcasting adventures.
