Top Artist Of The Year: Oh Wonder

We’re kicking off a new kind of post where we select one great band as artist of the year. The artist’s album (as evident in this case) doesn’t have to be released the same year that they’re named. In this case Oh Wonders album was released last year, and I somehow just recently started listening to them.

I don’t know why I hadn’t heard of them before, but I wish I had. Last year Oh Wonder began releasing a new song each month for a year. Somehow there are 15 songs on their album, but I’m not complaining.

I like to try to think of one word that comes to mind when I listen to an artist. And I didn’t have to think very long when I listened through Oh Wonders self-titled album. The word came to me pretty immediately.

In one word: clean

From the groups name, to their album cover to the sound of their music. The word clean applies. Everything about Oh Wonder is so aesthetic, it’s copacetic.

Another important attribute of their music is balance. Each song is so well balanced it’s not even funny. But I could talk all day about their music. You really have to listen to it yourself.

Usually I try to recommend one song that stands above the rest. In this case that’s almost an impossible task. They’re all so good, you won’t have to skip through any of them.

Let’s start with probably their most popular one, Without You.

Another pretty popular one is Drive. And like all their other songs it’s really, really good.

Hopefully those two got you hooked. If not there’s probably something wrong with you.
